August FUELer of the Month: Kymber

It has been amazing witnessing Kymber's fitness journey during her time here at FUELhouse, especially in these past few months as we've been following the Simple and Sinister programming in our Kettlebell Classes.  This woman is always smiling, has THE BEST aura, and moves likes a gazelle with the kettlebell.  She's just awesome and you need to know her.

Where can you be found outside of the gym? What do you do for a living?

I have a team of 16 super-smart amazing people who audit county government to make it more efficient, effective, and equitable. I am either there or working with my husband Jay on our kids travel startup, Riveted Kids.

How'd you find out about FUELhouse?

I love being physical but couldn't seem to find a gym that really spoke to me. I knew I really wanted a community. A place that I could feel welcomed and encouraged even though I am not a natural extravert. I tried several but I knew right away when I met Molly and experienced the community that I found my gym home.

What makes you commit to training even on days you don't feel like it?

I love my arms now more than I ever have. Rolling out of bed, putting on shoes, and working on keeping my arms all muscle-y is not that hard. Now that I am in my mid-40s it would be easy to just call myself fragile and relax into some yoga poses. But that is not the kind of life I want. I want to squeeze every little bit of joy out of my time on the planet and I can't do that without some muscle behind it.

What's your favorite movement/workout?

Turkish getups. They require balance and coordination and strength. I like things that force my mind to commit fully to the movement. There's no room for daydreaming during getups.

What's one thing you'd like to accomplish at FUELhouse in the next year or have you already accomplished this goal and if so what is it? How about in your personal life?

I am still basking in the glow of accomplishing "simple." I will work toward "sinister," but my goal is to get there in a smart way, listening to my body, and not hurting myself. In my personal life? I have tangible Riveted Kids business goals: I want to sell five travel journals a month and fill five kids' international travel summer camps in 2019.

Tell us a little known fact about yourself.

I raced mountain bikes for years (downhill, cross country, and cyclocross) and have a set of body armor and full-face helmet in my closet.

What's the most delicious meal you've eaten recently?

I think my 13 year old is making Thai Chicken Lettuce Cups right now. I anticipate that it will be the best meal I've had all week because I don't have to cook it.

What's your favorite thing about being a FUELhouse athlete?

I feel fully supported. I know that if I need a modification no one will shame me. If I have a question about how to get to the next level on a lift that my coaches will have great tips. Most importantly, I know that the coaches and other members care about me as a human.

We also need to know the name of your very first pet, and the name of the street you grew up on!  This will be your official stage name from here on out at the HOUSE (just kidding. not kidding)!

'OJ Dearborn'
