Join Coach Meg (NSCA-CPT, Precision Nutrition L1) for a short and sweet nutrition chat at FUELhouse on Saturday, 2/4 at 9:30am. This 60 minute session, open to FUELhouse members only, will give you a brief intro into the "big rocks" of good nutrition so you can get the most bang for your buck as you focus your efforts in 2017. We'll cover some basic Nutrition 101 knowledge (like how to determine your calorie needs as well as the importance of balancing quality protein, fats, and carbs) as well as important mindset work like long- and short-term goal setting, finding your "why," and how to develop better habits. Nutrition is one of the biggest components of what we do here at FUELhouse. We provide our clients with resources outlining the best ways to modify their diets to support their new, active lifestyles.  In addition to providing individual nutritional coaching, we run our quarterly gym wide 8 Week Recharge, a multi-week structured challenge that’s an excellent way for anyone, no matter where you are in your quest for better health, to test the limits of your own experiences while getting tons of individualized direction from Coach Meg, the support of the other FUELhouse coaches, and lots of encouragement from your fellow participants.

Nutrition in 60 Seconds

We eat real food – fresh, natural food like meat, vegetables and fruit. We choose foods that are nutrient-dense, with lots of naturally occurring vitamins and minerals over foods that have more calories but less nutrition. And food quality is important. We’re careful about where our meat, seafood and eggs come from and buy organic local produce as often as possible.

This is not a “diet.” We work to build a healthy relationship with food to fuel our training and enjoyment of our lives. We eat as much as we need to maintain strength, energy, activity levels and a healthy body weight. We aim for well-balanced nutrition, so we eat a variety of animal products and a significant amount of plants - but if you're vegetarian or prefer to stick to fish, we can work with that too. We’re not lacking carbohydrates; but we seek the most nutrient dense sources to ensure we have plenty of energy to work hard in the gym. And we're not scared of fat! It's a healthy source of energy when it comes from high-quality foods like avocado, coconut and grass-fed beef.

We eat to maintain a healthy metabolism and reduce inflammation within the body, aiming for a healthy body composition, energy levels, sleep quality, mental attitude and quality of life. We use good nutrition coupled with exercise you'll actually LOVE to minimize your risk for a whole host of lifestyle diseases and conditions, like diabetes, heart attack, stroke and autoimmune disease. So many “workout programs” or “diet programs” focus too heavily on one facet of getting healthy and leave you with an unbalanced approach. Our role is coaches is to help you identify your individual challenges to making healthy choices, then overcome them. Combining workouts at FUELhouse with a nutrient-dense diet will give you the balance you have been looking for.
